Congrats Tim Zobl!
I am truly honored to be chosen as Brewer of the Month! Each month I look forward to reading the bios and brew stories of the newest BOM. Most began their hobby in much the same way I did. Many have gone far beyond what I have accomplished yet. So for that reason I am humbled by the tribute. This Mr.Beer Community Form has been an extremely enjoyable part of my life since I began brewing exactly two years ago. I had never been involved in a forum before and from the moment I started posting questions, I was impressed how genuinely friendly and helpful everyone here was. I have learned so much from some very talented and skilled brewers along the way. Sadly some of them have drifted away, but many have stuck around and remain very active. I have struck up some great friendships here. We also have an ever expanding amount of new brewers showing up all the time bringing a whole lot of enthusiasm with them. I love this place!
As I said, I've been brewing for only 2 years now, having bought my first Mr.Beer kit at my local CVS for 50% off the day after Christmas. It was a spur of the moment decision that I will never regret. I brought it home and brewed up my first WCPA. I popped open the first one during the Super Bowl. To this day I still remember that proud feeling of "I MADE THIS!" And then, "What can I do next!?!?"
I haven’t looked back since. At close to 50 MB size batches and a half dozen or so 5 gallon ones, I rarely make any straight up MB recipes any more. But I haven't gone all-grain yet (YET!). I almost always add grains, hops, extracts and whatever…I can't contain the creative possibilities…I have to tinker. I find myself detouring from work to my LHBS for this and that at least once a week. I love to make clones of my favorite craft brews or come up with my own recipes. I occasionally still make a MB premium refill…love the GB Czech Pilsner and ADIPA. I make a bunch of stuff with Octoberfest VL as a base ingredient. The seasonal releases have all been outstanding. Mr.Beer makes some extremely high quality products and their service is first rate. Oh! And I REALLY like the Mr.Rootbeer!
I just want to say, that being BOM is an honor that I don't take lightly. Many others are more deserving. To be recognized for doing something I love and is so rewarding makes the honor even more special. Thanks!
How long have you been brewing?
2 years.
What is your favorite beer?
My home brews. But commercially, I like IPA's and stouts, my favorite being Bell's Two Hearted Ale and good old Guinness Extra Stout.
Who would you most like to share a beer with?
I have had the greatest pleasure sharing my beers with my wife. My dad, my close friends and family (even my kids) are impressed with and appreciate the quality of home brew. Otherwise, for someone I haven't yet had the pleasure to share a beer with, that would be the guys on this forum (and there's too many to start naming names!).
