J, of the Brookston Beer Bulletin, recently posted this article about how the TTB, Department of Homeland Security, FDA, and IRS teamed up to protect America from bioterrorist attacks at  Creekside Brewing. The long and short of things is that the TTB required Creekside Brewing to build a wall around their Fermentation vessels before granting their liscence. Creekside complied, and spent about $15,000 along the way. When pressed about the specific codes that require brewers to protect their equipment from terrorists, the TTB deferred to the Dept. of Homeland Security...who then deffered to the ATF and the FDA... both of whom replied that the agency responsible for regulating Alcohol is the TTB. That's government in action if I've ever seen it. Read the full blog entry here, and it wouldn't hurt to check out the SLO New Times article he referenced.

Political leanings aside, if you like beer you simply must like this image. It comes from a Chicago Tribute article , published about a month ago.

Why? Look at those glasses, chink-chinking with El Presidente's. There's a different colored beer in every one. Turns out, this photo was taken at Bethlehem Brew Works in Bethlehem, PA, during B.O.'s primary campaign. Now, I'm not saying that this is the first time a Future Pres ever set foot in a brewpub or microbrewery, but it's the first documented case that I've seen.

So what's the big freakin' deal? I'm all for the appreciation of beer. Anytime beer gets national attention outside a Superbowl ad, it makes me happy. Especially if said beer is anything other than fizzy yellow water. Don't get me wrong--I can appreciate a Hamm's as much as the next guy, but I believe in beer equality. All colors, creeds and nations of origin (except Turkey) are equal in my eyes, and deserve equal attention. Never had a filthy Turkish beer that I enjoyed... but that's the subject of a different article entirely.

Anyways, click here to read the full Chicago Tribune article, or here to read The Examiner's take on Obama and beer. Cheers!
