    Tell Yoda where to go

yes, but here's the problem. The two who would have gone with me won't be drinking (adult on pain meds who can't drink, and a 17 year old), so they would be waiting for me for 3-4 hours while I have a good time. I decided to just drive up there myself, and not tell them, then crash at a hotel near by for the night, then drive back sober in day light

    MUG MidWest Meeting #2

I don't want to steal @D Kristof's thunder, as he truly was the one who posted the initial information about this event. I just wanted to open a new thread to see who will/won't be able to make it, who might be able to meet up somewhere prior to the event, and have a thread where those who attend can post updates, pics, etc.

    Tell Yoda where to go

my problem is my designated diver and I live 1.5 hours from the event. And I'd have to pay her way. And she wants to go to IKEA during the morning And...And...And...too expensive. Folks, that's too expensive. I've booked a room at a hotel just south of Jungle Jim's for the night. I should be there on time for the Early Admission.

Event bookmarked. If I go, it would have to be Saturday, unless I take the day off of work Friday.

Oh......great. So instead of two months, I should plan 3? BTW, I didn't hit the lottery last night, so the Tour De Ohio is delayed

    Tell Yoda where to go

While Ohio brings up a great challenge, in order to appreciate it all, I doubt I could do it in one weekend. Considering Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Toledo, and yes.....Cleveland, it would take the better part of two months to appreciate the beers from this state. Sadly, for Memorial weekend, I only have 3 days. I am playing the lottery this weekend. If it hits, I'll let you know Yoda

how to handle a true lager?

I've heard two different versions of the story. Some say to lager at the same temp as fermentation (just like ales), and some say lager at refrigerator temps. Perhaps @MRB Josh R can chime in and give us the answer
  8. Durn. Was hoping that I could ferment at a 72, as that is the coldest I can keep my apartment without going bankrupt. Yes, I can use ice bottles. I might be doing that, but for now, the brewery is closed. I'd like to experiment on ciders prior to Autumn, so that they will be ready for the prime apple picking season and family holidays. Someone on the broadcast asked about cider recipes, and I mentioned the recipe database. I started the thread as "database", but it probably will stay as a spreadsheet..........at least for a while. It is located here: http://community.mrbeer.com/topic/35926-creating-a-recipe-database/?do=findComment&comment=469952 Open the spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, and with <CTRL><F> do a search on Hard Cider. There are 8 entries, and the one that catches my eye the most is the Mulled Cider. I might make this one, but order the mulling spices that come with Yule Like This Ale instead of having to deal with what the grocery store sells. Carmel Apple, Hopped Apple, Blueberry Apple, and an "apple pie" with grains all are on the list of recipes to attempt.

how to handle a true lager?

The one thing I haven't fully understood yet is the lagering/conditioning temp. My understanding is, ales condition at the same temp as they fermented, normally 65-68 degrees. Lagers ferment in the lower 50's but a true lagering (I have two of them going from March until September) will ager in the 30's. What would happen if I lagered in the same temp as fermentation for 4-5 months?

South Dakota and Washington State are definitely on the list (never been to either one), but at the moment I'm not able to afford an endeavor of that scale, both in money and vacation time. Someday I will

    Tell Yoda where to go

After careful consideration, Yoda's next beer adventure will be.......Lexington, KY, Memorial weekend. Yea, not a major event. Lexington is about an hour from where I live now, and not a major Mecca for craft beer enjoyers. However, there are some nice breweries, I have some friends I haven't seen in over a dozen years who live there, and my parents are buried at a cemetery about 30 minutes south of there. It would be nice to visit them. It's not an official MUG meeting, but if anyone is in the central KY area, let me know. I'm toying with the idea of what to do for the 4th of July. It's on a Wednesday, and if I take two days off (either Monday/Tuesday, or Thursday/Friday), I can do a 5 day beer adventure. I need to work out several things first, such as which two days I can take off work, and where I'm going to go, but I've got ideas. Yoda

    Carbonation

The carbonation has to come out, one end or the other. The only thing better than a 5 second burp in front of your wife is to wake your wife up at 1am, cover her head with the covers, and yell FIRE IN THE HOOOOOOOOOLE for 5 seconds. adoY
  13. FYI, I had multiple problems trying to view the feed today. I tried going in and out a few times, closing my browser and pulling it back up...nothing. I'm a computer geek by trade, so I know the basics. Recheck the firewall. Nope. Clear out the temp files and cache. Nope. Gave up. Tried it again about 3 hours after the episode was over. Nothing. Then, I remembered something I used to tell people when I first started in the corporate world on the help desk. First restart the computer, then power off/on Restart worked. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH Although, Now, I can watch back episodes Yoda........going back to Computer Sciences 101

    Creating a recipe database

Gee.....no updates in six months, then two in less than one week. This time, added the three new National Parks recipes, plus a few minor fixes here and there. Note to Mr Beer folks. The picture for Hidden Lake Amber shows a DME, but the recipe is calling for an LME. Just wanted to check and find out which is correct MrBeerRecipes.xlsx

Yea, well I probably would have to fly, and have a layover somewhere in South Dakota. In time, but it'll be a while before I can afford to fly. Yoda.........In an airplane

    MUG MidWest meeting

A great day today with the MUG Midwest team. we got a late start, well deserved considering the beers we enjoyed Friday evening. finally got our act together and made it to 3 floyds. The tour was very good. If you make it to this place, definitely do the tour of their facility. lots of beers sampled, and FINALLY @C-ya joined us. Due to a personal matter, I left, and freed up my seat for him. About 6:30pm we gathered in Josh's room for another beer sampling. C-ya brought an excellent Oktoberfest beer. We went through all 12 of Bonzai's beers, and our official beer judge said they were mostly excellent. Two had issues, and I'll PM him directly, but overall great beers Sadly, c-ya, creeps and friend Jeff will be leaving tomorrow. Josh and I will be in town, but probably do things on our own until late tomorrow when he has to leave. I want to thank *EVERYONE* at Mr. Beer for this event, and letting Josh join us. Creeps, C-Ya, and Jeff, great meeting you guys, and hope to see you in October Yoda

    MUG MidWest meeting

Summary of yesterday and plans for today Day one was a lot of fun. When @MRB Josh R arrived, @Creeps McLane, his friend Jeff and I were ready to go to 3 Floyds for supper. Josh was ready to eat too, so we waited for him to unload his car and we all went to eat. We did sample some of their beers, but that's more planned for today. When we got back to the hotel, the hotel staff allowed us to use the conference room for our tasting of beers we brought. Small samples of each, but there were a LOT of different beers. So many that we couldn't finish all that we wanted to sample, and haven't even looked at the main event, @Bonsai & Brew's shipment. Today, once we get up and start moving, we'll go back to 3 Floyds for the tasting and tour, and we'll return here to sample Bonsai's beers. I'll post the results of those either late tonight or tomorrow morning @C-ya, I will send you a personal message with my phone number. Call or text when you arrive, and we'll tell you where we are
