    MUG MidWest meeting

So you drew short straw? You'll be #3 (I'll update the first message of the thread shortly). I won't have any home brew......most of them are Mr. Beer recipes anyways. But I'll bring some of Louisville/Kentucky's finest. Ever had a true-to-recipe Kentucky Common?

    MUG MidWest meeting

I've toyed with the idea of visiting Tucson during their beer fest https://www.facebook.com/greattucsonbeerfest/ http://www.azbeer.com/ October 20th is plenty of time to organize something

    MUG MidWest meeting

First time Americans flew an airplane, there was one person on board First time the US launched a manned mission into space, there was one person on board. First time someone flew around the world (with stops), there was one person on board. First MUG meeting, there are two people on board. Got them all beat. But the more the merrier

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

I'll have to catch today's and Thursday's episodes on delayed tape. Possibly Wednesday's as well, and most of the future ones. I'm back to helping my landlord rehab apartments, which means being busy from 4 until 6:30 every week day, unless for some reason he can't make it.

    MUG MidWest meeting

I'll give him a like, just because he tried. Plus, perhaps he could host a meeting in his area of Pickering/Columbus Ohio.

Cute, and they are in Cincinnati (about 1.5 hours from me).

    MUG MidWest meeting

Tick......Tock......Tick.....Tock..... As of now, just the two of us. I'm hoping to have a head count by the end of the week, so that I know how much beer to bring and what to order from Mr. Beer for the event. And if the folks at Mr. Beer can't make it, no worries.....I'll try to ship them some stuff

    recipe for Helles

I made these a year ago, and can't remember them in detail (I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday). I will say that keg 3, where I added pils and munich malts and changed the hops, made for something very similar to Spaten Munich. One thing I think I remember is that it didn't have the mouth feel of the Spaten. I'd invite anyone here to try the recipe and post their taste testing.

    recipe for Helles

Friend of mine and I went to the local German Club's monthly outing. She has a love fare with all things German. She enjoys Spaten Munich Lager. Did some research, and this is a helles. I'm drinking one of the Helles from the Mr. Beer Seasonal section that I've been cold conditioning for a while. Just not the same. Color is darker and the flavor isn't the same. I was wondering if someone here has an all extract or partial mash recipe for a helles using Mr. Beer products, or knows of a source that sells a 5 gallon Helles kit. Rather not do a full grain on this, as I haven't done full grain (yet). More than willing to do the true cold conditioning. Just want to come as close to the Spaten Lager as possible. Thanks MY

    recipe for Helles

To me, they were very good beers. They weren't Munich Helles, but to my friends, recipes 2 and 3 came out with equal best votes.. Keg 2 - What The Helles, Bach? Suggested in the link above. It's not Munich, but I want to try it anyways. •1 Can Grand Bohemian Czech Pilsner Brewing Extract •1 Packet Dry Brewing Yeast (under lid of Brewing Extract) •1 Packet Saflager W-34/70 Dry Lager Yeast •1 BrewMax LME Softpack - Smooth •1 Packet Tettnanger Pellet Hops •1 Muslin Hop Sack •1 Packet No-Rinse Cleanser Keg 3 - Alter Keg 2. Drop the LME and add a Pale DME. Adding 6oz of Pilsner Malt and 2oz Munich Malt. Also alter the hops from Tettnanger to Hallertau, which is milder and more in tune with online all-grain recipes. I personally liked #3. I'll probably repeat this recipe in the early summer, if my finances improve some.

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

I hope I didn't create something that has made @MRB Renae uncomfortable. What I was hoping is to have the folks at Mr. Beer appear on camera so we can meet them. So far we've had @MRB Josh R and @MRB Rick. If she, or @MRB Tim want to make a guest appearance, that would be cool Regardless, hopefully I can meet everyone in person if I can pull off my planned trip to Tucson in late September. yoda

    Found 2 old cans

I'm going to let the others on here answer this question.......just wanted to say "LOVE your nickname". Reminds me of my youth

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

Might have to sit out on this broadcast, but I do have a question I hope gets answered. Considering the beer that is being brewed, a high-hop, how does conditioning time become an issue. Is it best to drink it sooner, and not wait many months, because the hop oils can break down? Yoda

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

or maybe @MRB Josh R helps @MRB Renae brew a Canadian Blonde? No, I'm not saying she's Canadian, or Blonde. But perhaps if he can show her how to brew a Tuesday recipe, more women (wives of brewers here?) might take on the "challenge"? Just Yoda thinking.......and drinking

We keep hearing the voice of @MRB Renae but never get to see her. Can she do a "hello" sometime?

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

Although this is a "beer" site, Mr, Beer does sell cider recipes. I hope Josh can do a cider demo soon, so I can order some cider kits and have them ready for mid summer

    Stout sale cancelled early?

this was a mistake at the home office. if you got the order in, okay, they will honor it. But understand that mistakes happen. Personally, no, I didn't get an order in, because I thought it was wrong. In the time I've been brewing with Mr. Beer, I've never seen that type of sale. Yoda

    MUG MidWest meeting

Oh, and if @MRB Josh R wants to do a remote broadcast of The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread from 3 Floyds, let me know. I'll call ahead. But it'll cost you....perhaps some Mr. Beer branded sampling glasses

    MUG MidWest meeting

I can receive the package. I will send you my mailing address via personal message. I don't have home/personal brews to send back, but I'll send some of Louisville/Kentucky's finest (ever had a true-to-recipe Kentucky Common?) Others who show up will contribute, and I'll resend the box with what we collect after the event. Yoda
  23. MiniYoda

    Mix IPA and Stout?

could make for a VERY interesting flavor......a very hoppy stout. The only thing I'd worry about is the amount of malt for an LBK.

    MUG MidWest meeting

I was looking at my brewing calendar, getting things ready for the weekend, and saw what I wrote down for next weekend. "DO NOT BREW". Then I looked why. Three weeks later is the MUG meeting at Munster / 3 Floyds. That means that in 4 weeks, we'll be drinking 3 Floyds dry. If you're going, make sure you reserve your hotel room soon.....apparently there's only 5 left that weekend. Yoda

The Real Mr. Beer - Live Stream Thread

understood. I can relate, since I work for the military BTW, if anyone has questions about an up-coming topic, and can't make to see the show, feel free to post them here. I'm sure Josh would be happy to make note of them and answer them here, and on the show. Yoda
