Second batch results

6 posts in this topic

I just sampled the second batch of beer that I brewed and it turned out great! I brewed the Oktoberfest. It has decent foam and carbonation, taste is mild with just a hit of bitterness, but very pleasant. I conditioned it for 4 weeks in a room with temperatures around 65º. Now to let my son-in-law try a bottle and get his opinion.

My first batch did not turn out so good, because I conditioned for 3 weeks at about 60º.

I like Mr. B's Oktoberfest.  It is even better as a Deluxe version with the extra malt.

You did what the hobby is about:  brew and learn.  Good for you and I hope you enjoy many more of your own brews.

Sounds like you are hooked.

Try to carbonate the next one at around 72 degrees for two to three weeks and then condition at the lower temperature.

Unfortunately, I have no place in this house above 67º and it's usually colder.

I have the same issue so here is my solution.

Get a cooler or plastic tub and put a strand of Xmas lights in it, 50 is usually more than enough.  Get a cheap timer and use a thermometer to figure out the on/off cycle to get the temperature up to the mid 70s.  Another option is to use a cheap temperature controller (about $30 on Amazon) to regulate the on/off cycle to maintain the temperature.
