Fisher King's Best IPA

4 posts in this topic

Howdy,

I was texted this info for an IPA, it was sent 2nd hand so the chain of communication is sketchy.

I've done more than few Mr. Beer mixes but it's just not enough information for me to carry it through so I thought I put it here for some input.

This is what I was sent:

Fisher King's best IPA

Grain bill: 50/50 Morris Otter / 2 row

(maybe Maris Otter and  2 row pale?)

10 minute 1 oz Mosaic

2 minute 1 oz Mosaic

Dry hop 6 days into active fermentation 1 oz Citra Amarillo

Yeast WLP 090 @ 64 degrees

I am hoping this means more to one of  you than it does to me. If so, what might be the quantities for a  5 gallon mix?  Opinions?

Well, youre missing a bitting hop addition. Is this a partail mash HME recipe? Then that would make sense. Just add an IPA or Pale Ale HME and you should be good. Id go with an IPA base. Id say that is a “recipe” for 4-5 gallons since youd be adding 4 oz of hops your self and the liquid yeast. But i dont really brew IPAs. Those are great hops. Cant go wrong with those three.

I would try this for 5 gallons:

3 Northwest Pale Ale HME

1# Marris Otter Malt

1# 2 Row Pale Malt

10 minute 1 oz Mosaic

2 minute 1 oz Mosaic

Dry hop 6 days into active fermentation 1 oz Citra Amarillo

Yeast WLP 090 @ 64 degrees

Steep the 2# of grain in 3qts of 150 degree water for 45 minutes.  Then bring to a boil and do your 10 minute and 2 minute hop additions.

Boil 3 qts of water remove from the heat and add the 3 HMEs

Put 2 gallons of chilled water in your 6 gallon fermenter and add both worts to it

Top off fermenter to 5 gallons with cold water.

Ferment and dry hop as indicated.

Don't know exactly how this will turn out but worth a try.

Thanks for the input guys.  I either need to get a 5 gallon fermenter, divide it up between 2 LBKs or cut it to a 2.5 gallon mix.   Lately I've been kinda IPA'd out but this sounds interesting, almost next level stuff for me and now I have a shopping list.

Again, I appreciate the help .
