What should i do with this beer?

  1. 1. I have ten gallons of a pale ale about 4 days into fermentation. Im thinking about taking 5 gallons of it and doing something different. Should I...?

    • Leave it alone. Keep 10 gallons of a pale ale
    • Do a secondary ferment with some oregon fruit
    • Do a secondary ferment with some Brett

Help me make a choice

Lol, I voted!

Although I've never split a batch or moved to a secondary, 10 gallons is a lot of beer to me, since I only do about 4 gallons and change a month.

I like the variety, so yeah I'm all in on splitting and adding some fruit.

Im blowing up this thread but if i do anything itll be tonight.

so the fruit options are

red tart cherry

dark sweet cherry

blueberry

gooseberries

Sounds like you just need to go with the Brett. It's what you really want. Come back next time with a plan for the fruit.

This wins. It is what i would prefer. I used delta hops for the first time and i think id rather be familiar with the hop flavor before i start adding fruit flavors. Im kinda surprised no one asked what hops i used.

Some of the funnest things about home brewing is being able to experiment. Do this this time, the other next and hell, maybe something else next time. :)

I look forward to our jump to a bigger system to where our current becomes our “pilot” system and we can do those things again too. :)

So you're goibg with tge Brett...I feel so dirty and used. 😃

This poll went further than just this forum. My wife, four year old and two year old also said brett. That brought it up to 8, which beats 7 for fruit. The two year old was quite persistent

Kegging this today. 3 months and 2 weeks ago I added the brettanomyces. Ill let it sit for another few months in my cellar. Then ill wait for @Big Sarge to come drink it with me

NICE!!! That funk is damn sexy!! I can't believe it has been that long already.

I'm pretty sure the two of us could put a pretty decent dent in that keg while sitting around talking about beer and life. I don't know that trekking across the Midwest in December or January is a good idea, but I would sure as hell try it!

I'm guessing that's supposed to look like that because of the Brett? It's kinda how I would picture a majorly infected batch would be.

I know you know what you're doing, but yeah I'd think I'd gotten mold in my beer and no way my wife would consider tasting it.

Haha, I just showed her the picture Lol, she was totally grossed!

Who knows another year or so and maybe I'd try a sip of that, but then again I might only be up for brewing a warmer saison and feeling really adventurous about that.

Yeah, thats called a pellicle. Its from brettanomyces but can also come from a lacto infection. Thats the best pellicle ive seen in my brewing career in my brews. It looks like poop but it usually yields a good beer.
