  1. Fusel Alcohols are responsible for the nasty hangovers . The hangovermeter will tell him if it was Fusel Alcohols he was detecting.
  2. I am ordering my JC and some priming sugar from northern brewer on Friday June 12. As soon as it arrives and I get it set up. the brewing will begin. I also have a MR B box coming soon. :woohoo:
  3. Due to my work schedule the water bottles in the cooler will not work. I would not be able to change the frozen water bottles on a daily basis and that would surely be a problem with this TX heat. Running the AC all the time will not work either. That is exactly what I needed to know. I already have the mini fridge. I just need to get the controller. I guess this is the option I will have to pursue. It will allow me to brew all year long :woohoo: First batch coming as soon as I can get the controller.

I checked the thermostat on the Johnson against a thermometer I put inside and they were dead nuts. It was way easier than I assumed. About a 5 minute install. How did you run the probe into the fridge? I guess a better question is where did you run the probe in to the fridge at? Do you have any pics of this set up.
  5. To all that have served in the past, present and future. We salute you.
  6. Man this sounds good. I am going to keep an eye on this one.
  7. I live very close to Lubbock Tx. I am in the same boat. I just scored a mini fridge ($49.00) that will hold two Mr Beer brew kegs. I am ordering my Johnson controller next week. I think it is the only way I will be able to brew with peace of mind. I have everything else in place. I will start brewing as soon as I get the controller. We will have to compare notes.
  8. I am drinking to that. :gulp: Congrats D Rock
  9. mcgrewc wrote: You use the hydrometer to read your starting gravity. It's simply a weighted glass rod with markings. You will probably start with something like 1.048 or so. From that you can compute that you should end up around 1/4 of that 48 or something like 1.012. When you near that and stay at the same reading for 2 to 3 days straight she's ready to bottle. I just ordered my hydrometer.
  10. I have another post on the forum about not being able to find OxiClean free. I eventually found it at Target in the laundry detergent section. The OxiClean Free has no perfumes dyes or chlorine added. The one pictured above only states no chlorine. Dose it make a difference? I don't know.
  11. Looks like I will have to pick up one more six pack tomorrow.
  12. Thanks guys for the reply. Roughly how many bottles do I need fora MR B batch.
  13. Newbie question. Are Sam Adams bottles good to reuse for bottling?. I am working on emptying them. :stout: How should I prepare them for storage until I am ready to bottle.
  14. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the help.
  15. Oh man that bites. I am going to order as soon as I get home. Do you recommend the glass or plastic hydrometer trst jar
  16. I notice everyone keeps talking about hydrometer. where is the best place to order one online.
  17. Found it at Target. Now if my new spigot will get here I can get everything assembled and cleaned up and I can get my first batch brewing.
  18. will keep looking then. I guess I can check Walmart on the way home from work.
  19. Hello all I am new here. I a gearing up to make my first batch. I am trying to get all of my necessities in place before I get started. I could not find oxyclean free. I found a big tub of Sun Oxygen Cleaner at dollar general. Will this work for cleaning my keg fermenter and utensils. If so how much of it do I use to clean my keg fermenter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Stan
