  1. Now all I need to do is drink a bunch of beer with pop tops... I knew I would like this whole home brewing thing Thanks for the input and happy Friday!
  2. I just bought my first bottle capper, the traditional red one with the two handheld levers, and I'm having some trouble with it. As a test run, I applied caps to bottles filled with water, and caps twist off with very minimal effort, much easier than would a Miller Lite, for example. When I submerge the capped bottles underwater, no air or water seems to get in or escape, but my fear is that when the beer begins to carb that the caps will surely fly off. Also, the capper Itself likes to stick to the bottle after I press down and I have to yank the bottle loose pretty forcefully. Has anyone else had this problem?
  3. Awesome, StarSan is exactly what I was looking for
  4. I know the no rinse sanitation packets provided with my Mr. Beer kit won't last forever, so I was wondering what other substances you have found effective for sanitizing. My first batch is ready to bottle and I'd like to sanitize my PET, transfer tubing, bottles, and anything else I'll be using the rest of this process with something other than the no rinse cleanser. Also, I'd love to hear the methods in which you sanitize throughout the different stages as well. Thanks!
  5. Assuming a 2.5 gallon batch with approx. 1/2 teaspoon sugar per bottle, how much water is boiled and mixed with the sugar while batch priming? Could someone elaborate on this process a little further, my first batch is almost ready to be bottled and I'm trying to do my homework in advance. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! Now that I'm waiting for my batch to ferment, I figure it's a good time to read up on the conditioning and bottling proces. Any words to the wise? I plan on using 12oz glass bottles instead of the large plastic ones provided.
  7. Could someone reference me to a thread that explains the 2-2-2 method further? Thanks!
  8. My first batch has just begun the fermentation process and I can't wait until its ready. I was very meticulous in making sure my utensils were properly sanitized and my LBK is sitting comfortably in a dark room at about 70 degrees. I went with the Witty Monk Witbier included with my kit. I'm going to to do my best to not fiddle with it for 2 weeks and let the yeast do its job. I want to thank the community for all your help and I look forward to brewing with you and learning all I can. Cheers!
  9. Hi everyone! I am about to embark on my very first brewing experience, and have a question about booster. I was lucky enough to get the Mr. Beer kit for xmas, which does not contain booster, nor, does it mention it in the instructions. The two HME's included are American Devil IPA and Witty Monk Witbier. The variety pack I purchased separately, however, does contain a packet of booster. So, my question is, in what circumstances is booster required (preferred) when using Mr. Beer HME'S?
