  2. "stevecon" post=314806 said:I'll bet that your beer is probably ready to go, but leaving it for another few days isn't an issue. Your temps were in the right range fermenting. How much yeast did you use? I would suggest getting a hydrometer. I used 1 pack of the yeast that comes with the HME's. I got my hydrometer after I already brewed this batch so I could not get a OG. I took a gravity reading today and will check in another day or two to see if it has changed. Thanks for the fast reply's guys!
  3. I made the recipe for Defibrillator Doppelbock and today marks the 3 week mark in the LBK. I took a small sample from the LBK and it still seems to have a little cider like taste to it and is still a bit cloudy. I have heard that the yeast would surely be done by 3 weeks but is it possible that it is not done yet and I should leave it for another week? My LBK has been fermenting at 68 degrees for 3 weeks...I know this is a higher gravity recipe so does that mean that it will need more than 3 weeks?
  4. A few questions about yeast... 1) Is it worth spending the extra $5 on the special yeast packets that Mr Beer sells to use instead of the regular packets of yeast that are already under the lid of the the HME's? 2)If you buys the $5 yeast packets from MrBeer would you recommend using the whole 11.5 g packet in 1 LBK batch? 3)If you only use half of the yeast packet, is the rest really only good for 7 days? 4) If I do buy the special yeast packets would it be ok to use 2 of the yeast packets that come under the lids of the HME's together in one batch in the LBK as I would now have extra's of these packets? Thanks!
  5. Yes, you are right. I had it in my original thread but didn't know if anyone was going to see it so I posted the question by itself. Thank you for your feedback...I asked the question because I read on another forum that you should not add as much sugar if you are using glass rather than PET. I am going to go with your advice, thanks again!
  6. So right now Mr Beer is running these promos on refills... 25% off Brewmaster Select Ultimate Kits and Craft Series Refills 20% off Premium Ultimate, Gold Ultimate Kits and Deluxe Refills 10% off Premium Extra, Gold Extra Kits and Standard Refills You can stack Promo code freedec12 to add another 20% to that and get a heck of a deal! 4 pack of craft series refills for only $48.29, usually $87.80
  7. I am thinking about batch priming my first time around. If I do batch prime would it be a problem to fill both plastic and glass bottles after batch priming? I have heard to put less sugar in if you are using glass so does that mean if I do batch prime my plastic bottles would not become fully carbonated? Would it be smart to add a little extra sugar to my 1 litter plastic bottles after batch priming? I won't be doing this for a few weeks still but would like to get an idea of what you all would think would be the best solution...thanks!

I hear the owner of the one in Falls Church can be an a-hole... Zobel~ Yes. The one in Falls Church is very close to my house./ Maybe about 5 or so minutes from where I live. I think you're off base about the owner at the LHBS in Falls Church. Mean what you've heard or read...maybe you're not hearing the right "tone". I will say the owner is a little bit more stand off-ish. He is a good guy and he knows his stuff. I think in life people are dealt certain hands or develop certain hands through time. Life-of-the-party is not the hand he was dealt. That being said, the guy is on top of his game and he does know his stuff. He's definitely NOT an a**hole. He's not mean or condescending. He's just more not the life of the party. There is usually always another guy there. Younger guy. Derek I think is his name...but maybe I'm remembering his name wrong. The younger guy is more personable. I'll tell you what...if you'd like, I can make time on Saturday morning or noon and meet up with you over at the LHBS in Falls Church. I just went there today...but I'd be more than happy to go over there and meet you personally on Saturday. I can even bring one of my new beers -- my first attempt at a Belgian Pale Ale. I brought in one for those guys today and I'm interested in their feedback on it...so it works for me. Let me know. be happy to do it. Sorry if that came off the wrong way, as I was not trying to be condescending. It was just something I have heard from a few people and to be honest I am not one to judge someone from what I hear from other people. About this weekend, I do not know if I am going to have time as I have a lot to take care of before I head out of town for Christmas the following week. I do not want to say yes and then have to cancel, so if it ends up that I come up with some spare time I will post on here and see if you can still make it. If not, I will defiantly take you up on that offer when I get back in town, as I would also love to try some of your home brew. Another question I have for you...I don't know if you batch prime or prime by the bottle but I am thinking about batch priming my first time around. If I do batch prime would it be a problem to fill both plastic and glass bottles after batch priming? I have heard to put less sugar in if you are using glass so does that mean if I do this my plastic bottles would not become fully carbonated? Would it be smart to add a little extra sugar to my 1 litter plastic bottles after batch priming? I won't be doing this for a few weeks still but would like to get an idea of what you would think would be the best solution...thanks!

  11. This seems like a pretty good deal. It is on back order but says it should ship within 7-10 days. It's the old MrBeer International Three Beer Mix Variety Pack for 29.89 with free shipping... http://www.coolstuffcheap.com/mr--beer-20026-three-beer-mix-variety-pack.html
  12. I checked their online site and they do not sell any Cooper products online. It must be in store only...
  13. Steve, After you mentioned it I signed up for a Student account and I get 6 months free and then $39 a year for the next 4 years...That is a deal!
  14. Thanks Steve, I am not a prime member but the more I want to buy from Amazon it seems like I should become one. I looked at Wal-mart and it is the exact same price. My local store has it in stock so I will head there tomorrow...
