  1. I'm not quite sure I'm ready to be using fruits at this point. Although it sounds good.
  2. Thanks. I guess I've got to get some hops and try it.
  3. What do you guys think.? I'm trying to think outside the box, and was wondering if anyone has done this? Would there be any benefits? I'm looking more for body/flavor more than ABV. I'm going camping in April and would like to have one batch ready for the trip(possibly 2 or 3 batches LOL)
  4. I used the wrong terminology. The package says each cube is 1/2 tsp. So it's no different than using the PET bottles. I was thinking there may be more to it than that. OK. Sounds like I need to bottle. I'll be leaving about an inch up the neck open. Thanks. Bob
  5. Well, my Canadian Blonde/Pale LME is about ready to bottle (3 weeks in LBK). So far I've been using the standard MR.B plastic bottles. I bought some 1/2L glass bottles. Is there anything I should be aware of other than cleaning/sterilizing? I'll be bottle priming using Domino Dots cubes. Thanks, Bob
  6. Ok. Thanks. The scale has lines, but no numbers, so I could be reading it wrong. But at least I have a general idea of what I'm looking at. RickBeer, thanks. That video was very informative. Now, next time I'llI know exactly what i'm looking at.
  7. Just got done brewing my Patriot Lager/Pale LME and did the Hydro reading. If I'm reading the 3 scales right, here's what I have... SG-1.34 Brix-10 Alcohol %-5 This is the standard hydro sold by Mr. Beer on their site. Do these #'s sound right?
  8. Just got done bottling AL after sitting in the LBK for 3 weeks. I have a batch of Patriot Lager that's going to be bottled Fri, a batch of Bavarian Weissbier w/Golden LME brewing on week 2 now, and also just put a batch of PL with Pale LME in the LBK. At the current moment I have 3 LBK's going... Guess you could say I'm officially hooked. Gotta get more space, as I'm thinking of doubling up a batch in a 5 gallon set-up.
  9. Don't be discouraged. I did my first batch and the first 2 I drank tasted the same way. I then took them out of the fridge and let them sit for another 1-1/2 weeks. Put them back in the fridge, and they came out fine after another 4 days. When you say you fermented for a month, did you leave it in the keg that long, or is that the total of keg, bottle, fridge?Generally, the consensus is 3 weeks in the keg, 2-3 weeks at room temps, another week or 2 in the fridge. I've found mine to be good enough after 2-2-2 (6 weeks total), but my latest batch is going longer to see if there is a difference. Be patient, and give it another try with a different recipe.
  10. Yeah, thanks. My American Light is just about at 3 weeks in the LBK, so it's almost ready. Just got my new box in, hydrometer, stick on thermometer, Bavarian Weissbier HME and pack of Golden LME. Going to brew that tonight. Looks like I'll have a new batch to bottle every 2 weeks for the next month.
  11. Thanks. I'm relatively new to this, but I'm definitely liking the results.
  12. "Why on earth did you marry her? :)" Easy, she puts up with me, lets me spend cash on my tools/cars-and now brewing- and makes more money than I do .... ;) LOL Yea Joe, we're just about in the same boat.
  13. Well, after 2 weeks in the LBK, 3 weeks conditioning and a week in the fridge, finally got to taste my latest batch. Tasted good. Good head, carbonation in the glass, and great taste. Have another batch brewing in the LBK now. This one I'm going to try 3-3-2 and see if there's a difference in the taste.
  14. Sorry to hear that. I'm fairly new at this myself, and have had a couple batches that didn't taste too good. I didn't let that discourage me. I can't say if anything is wrong, but it looks like the yeast is still fermenting-mine looks like this after a few days now-What ingredients are you using? How was the temperature while it was brewing? Did you open the keg during the past 3 weeks? Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with better advice.
  15. I only wish she liked beer, or any alcohol for that matter. She doesn't. She's good with one or two mixed Bailey's or a margarita that's about it But, she doesn't stop me from making/drinking it.
  16. Just ordered another refill kit, hydrometer, thermometer, LME and LBK. I have a patriot Lager refill, so I stepped it up by ordering an LME to add to it. Also going to try the Bavarian Weissbier kit. When my wife got me the original kit, I don't think she thought about the "monster" she was going to unleash...LOL
  17. Ok, thanks. I got this one when I ordered the LBK that the brew is in now. I'll also have to see about my basement. In Ct. now it's been getting down to the 40's at night. I'm now going to have 3 LBK's and the wife may get a bit peeved at her precious counter space being taken up by my beer. Thanks, guys.
  18. Just started another batch of Patriot Lager, and since it's getting cooler out at night, I just wanna check and see if the temp is good or bad. Right now it has a greenish hue with a check mark. Yesterday it was a grayish color with a light check mark. When should I worry?
  19. Thanks. Currently, I'm using the Mr Beer PET 1Ltr and 1/2 Ltr bottles. I do plan on buying the glass bottles at some point.
  20. Congrats! I'm fairly new to this myself. I'm on my 6th batch now. After reading on this forum, I'm now going to let this batch (and many more)condition longer. I liked the taste after the 2-2-2, but now i know it could be much better. I like those labels. Someday I hope to do something like that for mine.
  21. Thanks. I also like the ease of using them, plus i don't spill sugar all over the wife's counter...LOL
  22. Ok, thanks. I guess that's where I went wrong. Would you recommend them, or should I just use sugar instead? I kinda like the ease of using them.
  23. Tried to search, couldn't find what I was looking for. When using the Mr Beer Carbo Drops, should I let them dissolve on their own, or should I "swish" the brew until they're fully dissolved? I want to make sure I do this right, so the beer tastes good. My last batch (Canadian Blonde) was OK, but I think it could have been better. I used them and I "swished" them around. The instructions don't say specifically. Thanks.
  24. Introducing myself as a noobie. My name is Bob. I just joined the forum and have read through a lot of the threads already. LOTS of good info. I've had my original kit since Christmas 2012. The wife saw me looking at it in the store one day and figured it would make a good present. I've since bought a 2nd LBK and have so far brewed 5 batches-American Light, 2 Patriot Lager, Canadian Blonde, Grand Bohemian Czech Pilsner. Planning on getting a 3rd LBK and making a place in the basement to brew so i don't use up counter space in the kitchen.
