  1. First attempt at making beer. I've always wanted to try this. My son gave me a Mr Beer kit for Christmas. I'll be trying it in a day or two.

Great! Make sure you leave it in the LBK for 3 weeks and let it bottle carbonate for 4 weeks (minimum) and settle in the fridge for 3 days before drinking.

      Welcome to the forum.

Recommend you read  brewing info on links in posts by Rick Beer, to save you possibly making some beginner mistakes that might discourage you from repeating the experiment.

There are probably just a few things to watch that will greatly improve the likelihood of success.

Actually read as much as you can.

BTW what kit and beer did you get?

      Interesting approach.

I do the same thing sometimes using Cooper's 6G HME cans split to 3 LBKs. It takes just a little bit less time than 3 separate LBKs.

Thanks for the heads up but I have so much to brew now already. I think 7 of those and a whole bunch of the regular Mr B and I do about 3 LBKs a month  only - but I appreciate the consideration :-). Probably I am good through 2017 - lol.

  6. Drinking my second batch of Sir Kenneth, did the hops "naked" this time and the taste is different. I did not expect anything different from using the hop sacks. I liked the first batch better using the sacks, comments? Thanks. Both batches were brewed exactly the same with regard to timing the hop additions.

I am just finished the first batch, but after maturing since 3/26, it was definitely better than last one I opened. 6 months is a long time to wait though - but it was still good earlier. I used hop sacks for all hop adds.

The difference may depend on how loose you left the hops in the bags. You need to leave them room to get liquid through them after they have absorbed water, not being tight in the bag.

  7. I'll tell you why they cant, Mr. Hoppy.  It's b/c no one is buying their $20 cans of BW, when you can get it from Target for $5.  And that's the bottom line cuz Stone Cold said so!

  10.                                        Tangerine Song

                                           By Fred Zeppelin                 5 gallons

6 lbs of Wheat LME or equivalent HME

    8 oz. Flaked Wheat

    8 oz. Flaked Oats

    8 oz. Fresh Oats

    4 oz. Crystal Malt 10L

    4 oz. Carapils

    1/2 oz. cluster hops

    1/2 oz. Falconer's Flight*

    1/2 oz. Cascade***

1/2 oz. Glacier******************* ( button got stuck)

1 packet of Safbrew WB-06 dry yeast

    5 ripe tangerines, zested*

    1 lime zested*

1 pkge of dried Tangerine peel*

1 4 oz. bottle of Tangerine Extract*

    1 wooden shoe

    5 boosters* ( optional )

22 oz. vodka drank before beginning anything

1 oz. vodka ( for soaking zested peelings)

2 lbs of Extra Light DME*

1 oz. Citra hop (to replace hops above, just didn't have at the hop at the time, so I substituted)

depending how many boosters you want to add, I pour 1 cup of COLD spring water into a sauce pan per booster pack, slowly bring to a simmer and stir to help dissolve the booster. when dissolved it can be added to wort after the boil process.

                          steep Carapils/Crystal =20 min@ 160 degrees, then remove

steep Flaked Wheat/Oats& Fresh Oats=20 min@160, then remove

add LME or equivalent mix thoroughly then bring to boil

                         * add cluster hop, boil for 60 min.

** add Falconers hop, boil for 20 min

add booster solution and mix thoroughly

cool down wort, rack into fermenter, take O.G., aerate wort then pitch yeast, ferment according to yeast recommendation. Take the zested peels and place in a jar, pour the vodka in, seal it, and put in a dry dark place for 1 week. take F.G readings after about two weeks maybe? I didn't do any readings and let it set in primary for 4 weeks.

I use a secondary fermentation and that's when I add the tangerine additives plus more hops, if it's going in the LBK, I would add the zested peel after week two or push it to week three ( if that's your final week).  Also the Extra Light DME brought to a boil in a pan then cooled to approx. 70 degrees then was added to the secondary before the racking. After two weeks in the secondary, I dry hopped the Cascade** then final week, which was the 4th week, I dry hopped the Glacier*****. in the event you have Citra Hop, then u probably use your own method of time to dry hop. the tangerine peel I added in hop sack during the final week 4, and when I batched primed my beer, I then poured 4 oz. of tangerine extract.

the outcome???? Super Duper Mega Tangerine Slap U In Da Face beverage. I would highly recommend getting additional advice from other experienced brewers before attempting, they may have better/ cost effective ways of brewing something similar. I let the keg set for 10 months, and i'm glad I did that

  11. Bavarian Weissbier sold by Target on ebay, $5.68/ can plus tax and shipping, I got four cans shipping was free after 2 cans order, and the tax was under 2 bucks! still the total I spent was 24.98 I think on 4 cans!!!! limited quantites

      Nickfixit

I had to get 5 for free shipping but it is a great deal. Thanks again.

Also a good deal, I am trying the Cooper's Dark ale I got on sale (6 gal kit) I will split between 3 LBKs

IIt was $18 (& free shipping) for the can - so that is $6 per LBK but I have to add 2 malt packs to get to 4.5% - say 1 lb DME is $4 at LHBS. I may add 1.5 lb.  So that gets to $12-14 per LBK. I have lots of spare Cooper's yeast packs. and enough hop packs to play with the aromas so that looks like a good deal too. That will be the next brew. I have to wait for 3 LBKs to become available and I will make 3 different brews with it.

  13. Do you by chance have a excel spreadsheet on keeping records of the brews that I make. I saw in the forum that someone had made and was excellent but can't find it know. Thanks

You can do it complicated or do it simple

I just do it like this - simple. I don't record the gravities, just when and what and notes on how and results. No reason you could not add any details you want. ALso I havd (not up to date) a best drunk by area so I can see I am well stocked.\

I also keep an area for inventory
