  1. Check the seam on the outside of the LBK around the spigot. Some have had issues with the seam not being smooth and causing leaks. Use a fine grade sand paper and lightly sand the area and this should fix the problem. Also hang on to that second LBK a little longer. A lot of us have ended up buying another one after our first couple of batches to help build the pipeline. Welcome to homebrewing!
  2. I have experienced it with the Dortmund export & a few of my Oktoberfest. Every one of my Dortmund Exports are like what you described. Pour 1/4 of the bottle & get a full glass of foam. Come back in 5 minutes and repeat. The Oktoberfest is not quite as bad but still way too much. My last batch I batched primed for the first time & used Screwy Brewer for the right amount of sugar. We shall see in another 3-4 weeks how it works out.
  3. I use one to check my temp & it works great. I check it in several places below the wort line & the temp readings are always withing one degree.
  4. The reason I ask is b/c in most of the answers about using honey the resulting answer seems to be chase flavor not ABV and the general consensus is to use lme or dme for better results. Thanks for the quick reply.
  5. I have seen many times on the forum that when people ask/talk about adding honey to their recipe that many of you advise against it b/c it adds little to no flavor & dries out your beer. My question is, why do recipes on Mr Beer & other sites call for you to add a cup or 1 lb. of honey if it brings nothing to the table other than raising abv?
  6. If I don't plan on brewing this for a couple of weeks to a month should I put the spices in the fridge?
  7. Just ordered two! Thanks for the heads up.
  8. I had the same results on mine today. Mine also still had a little apple/cider taste. I fermented 2 weeks(before I saw about 3 weeks) & bottle conditioned for 4 weeks. Little to no head at all. I only tried one bottle so I am going to let the rest sit for another week or two. The room temp in my house has been about 69 degrees for the past few weeks so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any ideas? Thanks.
  9. I was leaning to go ahead & use it. Thanks for pushing me over the ledge guys
  10. I recently purchased a 2nd LBK on ebay & it included some bottles & the West Coast Pale Ale with an expiration date of Aug 2014. I know I have read where you guys have said that it should still be good. Having looked @ Mr. Beer's recent sales on their expiring inventory where they say brew as soon as possible, I was just curious on your thoughts? If I do decide to brew I will buy new yeast & booster as the booster that came with this was hard as a rock. Thanks.
