  1. I forgot what the coditioning time was on the IRA and it's no longer available on the website so I can't access that info. It's been 5 weeks since I bottled this, does anyone know if it's good to go yet?
  2. So, if I'm making a 2 gallon batch, would 1/2 cup of maltodextrin be ok, then?
  3. So, if I add the maltodextrin, I use it like a booster pack and stir it in the water before I boil it?
  4. My next brew will be the Golden Empire IPA so I have the Carapils malt down. I have ordered some maltodextrin online so after that I will be making an Imperial Red Ale with a smooth LME, Ekuanot, German Mandarina and Amarillo hops. Hopefully I'll have some great foam on my pours. Thank you all for your help.

  6. I just poured a Howling Red Ale, and there was a nice head on it for about 3 minutes and now, nothing. How much Carapils malt do I need to steep in a batch and for how long? Also, where can I find maltodextrin?
  7. I have noticed the last few beers that I have brewed have little if no head retention. I am putting the right amount of sugar in each bottle and they all still taste good but once I pour it into a glass, there's no head. This has happened especially with the Horse's Ass Ale and Fresco Chile Lime Beer. Does anyone know what may cause this?
  8. Alright, @MrWhy, you've convinced me. What you're saying makes a lot of sense and I think I'm gonna go with it. Thank you for your suggestions and I'll let you know how it comes out. Good luck with your Chinook IRA, as well. How are you planning on making that one?
  9. You know, I'm not really sure which hops to use when, that's why I posed this question in the first place. By switching the two hops what would the difference be?
  10. I just didn't know if it was overkill or not. The only other time I've had this extract, I made the Millenium Falconers Flight Red and it came out awesome!
  11. Hi, I am about to whip up a batch of Imperial Red Ale and was looking to kick it up a notch. I'd like some imput on how this would come out. I am thinking about adding a smooth LME and then boil some Ekuanot hops for about 10 minutes. Then as I take it off the stove I want to add another bag of Amarillo hops before adding the HME into the LBK. After 2 weeks, I would like to dry hop it with German Mandarina. Does this sounds way out there, will it be horrible? Any suggessions are welcome.
  12. Saturday will be the 21st day and the first week WAS at the correct temp.
  13. I have a similar qustion relating to this topic. Just got back from a week long vacation and I noticed that my Howling Red Ale was between 61 and 64 degrees. We had turned off our thermostat in our house for the past week ( didn't want to pay for heat if we're not here) and when we got back the temp in the house was 60 degrees. I am scheduled to bottle my beer this Saturday the 27th. Is there anything that I should do? It's in the basement, next to the heater room. Do I need to bring the temp up somehow or can I just bottle as is?
  14. Had a Toaster Pastry Red IPA from 21st Amendment Brewery that I thought was pretty good.
  15. I was kind of thinking of dry hopping the Simcoe in addition to the Cascade. Do you think there would be another hop that would accent it better?
  16. OK, thanks, kedogn...it looks like they're not real similar. I was thinking of adding some Simcoe hops to the Howling Red Ale. How do you think that would turn out?
  17. I was just wondering what the differences between the Simcoe and Williamette hops were. Woud I be able to substitute one for the other or are they totally different?
  18. If I do dry hop, how long do I boil the Muslin sack to sanitize it before adding the hops and dropping it in the fermenter?
  19. I think I may just take Big Sarge's advice and just make it straight up. If I like it, I may need to experiment with it, as well.

  21. ...also when dry hopping, the instructions say to add the hops after 1 week in the fermenter, but I was told it was better to add them about 5 days before bottling.
  22. I wa I was just thinking about making the NWPA on it's own but had these extra packets of hops laying around so thought I might use them up. Do you know how long they last unopened?
  23. Hi, I have a container of Northwest Pale Ale and would like to kick it up a notch by adding some hops. I do have three packets of hops on hand, Zythos, Falconers Flight and Simcoe. Which, if any, of the hops will make my pale ale more like an IPA ( if at all) and would I benifit in adding an LME or a booster?
