Just grabbed my first refills since 2010, looking for any and all pointers for brewing with the American Porter. I'm thinking of adding smooth lme, 1/2 C of cocoa powder and a drop of vanilla extract at bottling. Any thoughts?

I have just bottled my 1st batch after purchasing a kit and am anxious to brew another. Yesterday I purchased some Mr. Beer products online, including 2 of the daily $5.00 deal, the Oktoberfest beer kit. Looking over recipes I noticed that multiple beer kits can be used in the 2 gallon fermenter. Would using the 2 Oktoberfest and a Pale LME, and a booster pack be a good idea? I had also purchased an oz. of Columbus hops, (was going to dry hop my 1st batch but opted not to), could I add this?

There's a commercial playing on the radio a lot lately for Sleeman brewery, which involves their embracing their "notorious past". It has different secret knock combinations like there would have been back in the prohibition days, and then a random name for the knock. The first one is called "Rattlesnake bootstrap". I looked it up, and there is no actual brew that is named as such and now I feel like I NEED to come up with a brew with this awesome name. I'm not even sure where to start other than to have a brew that has a little bite to it, maybe like an IPA. There's not a lot of snakes up our way, so I really have no idea here. The bootstrap part? Well…. I guess that would be dry? Maybe? Any and all suggestions/ideas here are welcome. Maybe we could make this a collaboration?
