Wisdom teeth Yeast infection?

Recommended Posts

So Sunday I am FINALLY going to get my wisdom teeth sawed out. Ive tried yanking them out myself but theirs not enough scotch in the world to help me there. Anyways when I was young and dumb I was going to get my tongue pierced but decided against it after finding out that I wouldn't be able to drink beer for a month due to the risk of getting a yeast infection. I was just wondering if anybody here knew anything about the guidelines on drinking beer after getting 4 teeth taken out? Scotch only?

Never heard that. Way back in the day had my tongue pierced, ate a Big Mac that night, and the next weekend consumed close to my bodyweight in beer (young, dumb, Marine). I had my wisdom teeth yanked last year, drank plenty of beer no problem.

Sounds like someone was messing with ya haha. I drank like a fish after getting my wisdom teeth out 2 years ago, kicked back tallboys left and right. (wasn't a beer snob then )

whew :woohoo:

I wont tell the ol lady...still a good excuse to buy me some scotch! Depending on how much my mouth hurts after I gem em out somebody suggested I should crush up and add 1 vicodin to each homebrew but I dont think I will. Although you could probably use it to bitter an over sweet beer

This isn't beer related in any way shape or form, but make sure you ice. I had 4 pulled at once and felt fine the first day, so I didn't ice. Next day was horrible!!!!

I had my wisdom teeth ground out and the whole upper row of teeth pulled, drank a lot of beer that night and even smoked right after it was done. Beer will help so you won't get any infections.

I wish I still smoked. I LOVE cigarettes. I still chew though so im really not looking forward to rubbing copenhagen into my stitches. Im going to make them give me something strong for the pain. I was on painkillers for a year when I was in a logging accident and almost lost the use of my left arm so I built up a tolerance a few years ago.

No problems drinking last night. Although one of the stitches fell out.

Haha at least it didnt get knocked out. Aint they supposed to dissolve?

My stitches didn't dissolve, but that was many years ago. In fact, I had one come out and get jammed between my other teeth while eating McDs. Never had any concerns about drinking. Dry socket IS a valid concern tho if you lost a stitch.

The girlfriend is pitching me shit about getting them out. She says im going to be in pain for days and wont be able to eat anything. Ive always had staples instead of stitches so im not too wild about that. Dry socket is just an infection in the open hole? She seems more concerned than I am. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain so im not too worried about it

The oral surgeon that removed mine 2 yearsago did not use stitches, I was told they don't anymore, same when I had a tooth pulled last year

Im about to graduate dental school actually. Never heard of getting yeast infection especially bc most commercial beer the yeast is filtered out. Theres already so much bacteria in your mouth it wont matter what you drink. The main this is preventing dry socket in which carbonation and alcohol can dissolve the blood clot a little i guess. As long as you arent spitting or smoking the clot should be fine. Obviously if you are taking pain killers the alcohol is going to affect that. As far as sutures? i only use them if i have to flap the gums or drill bone. any other questions? haha

Thanks for the input! I would be drinking home brew full of yeast. Or Scotch. Also, I chew. Is that gunna be a problem?

nicotine slows healing but the main thing is keeping the clot in there for a few days. Any pressure changing forces like spitting hard or drinking through a straw could potentially pull it out. So if you do, dont spit hard. I dont think there is anyway for brewers yeast to cause infections unless your blood is made of wort.

That would be awesome if my blood was wort. Then I could just eat yeast and enjoy a nice little buzz. Of course, I probably wouldnt hang around this borg anymore if people were trying to ferment my blood all the time. What can I eat? The girlfriend is saying soup only and cant eat for 6 hours prior. I just ate a bunch of bacon and hashbrowns

Also, will they not take them out if I am sick? I have a head cold. My mom told me she knew a guy years ago that had his taken out while he had strep throat and the strep got into his holes went to his brain and killed him

deckm is giving you good advice. I would just add that you should be careful mixing beer with painkillers. The most commonly used pain meds for oral surgery of this type are Hydrocodone/apap (vicodin) or Oxycodone/apap (percocet). Alcohol can amplify the affects of both of these.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled / cut out last year and they gave me Percocet for the pain.....Percocet and beer...not necessarily a bad thing as long as you don't overdo it.

eating before isnt a problem unless you are getting sedated for the surgery. afterwards just softer foods so you dont damage the area. Never heard of catching disease through the sockets, sounds like a myth to me. like i said before there are hundreds of types of bacteria in your mouth already. depending on the difficulty of the extractions the dentist might put you on antibiotics anyway.
a few years ago a younger boy died from a tooth infection that some how spread to his brain but that was the onlytime something like that happened and it was because the mother never took him to get it taken care of

had a few yanked myself last winter...just dont drink it too cold...or swirl it around to open up the pocket( that would be very bad)...maybe try a straw and use it slowly...most important...dont mix w/ the meds the doc gave you...

hope it goes well...t ;)

Ow. DeckM I hate you. I dont see how you can sleep at night doing that kind of stuff to people for money? Haha just kidding but FUCK!!!! They didnt sedate me or gas me. They numbed me and not even all the way. 3 came out within `10 minutes and I didnt even know it until they told me. The 4th one they had to cut into quarters and work them separately. That was the one that wasnt numb all the way. I thought they cut the wisdom teeth out. Not in my case. All they did was pry them up and down and back and forth. They wound up leaving a little bit of the tooth on the fourth one in because it was too close to the nerves of the tooth in front of it. So I have a little stubby piece of tooth just hanging out in my gums.

I gotta hand it to you though DeckM for choosing a profession with such smoking hot dental hygienists! The one I had was awesome and smokin ass hot and a little flirtatious. She kept rubbing herself all over my elbow and shoulder. It was a nice little bonus. Maybe the Dentist aint so bad after all

The Novacaine just wore off. Now it REALLY hurts. I almost choked to death on a Vicodin. I hate the taste of blood so I had to get the holes to stop bleeding before I would swallow anything. Havent closed my mouth in about an hour. Sitting in front of the tv with a big bowl to drool into because im not supposed to spit and havent even thought about having a beer. Eff that. I dont want to do anything that might slow down the healing process because I just want this to end. Im happy they are gone because they were giving me hell but I still have to whine a little bit because there is blood in my mouth and I hate the taste of it. You could blow my leg off and I would be fine with it but is some of the blood splashed up and landed in my mouth I would probably gag throw up and then start crying. I hate the taste of blood. And Dentists.

Well I am from Forks,Wa. Although those idiots in the movies are all morons. If somebody offered me $1mil to drink a vial of my own blood I would refuse...until I thought about how much homebrew stuff I could buy with it and then id slam it down like me drinkin Whiskey in high school. And then probably puke my guts up

Best damn tasting bread and butter I have ever had. Filled up on it before my actual meal came. Then went and lost $70 in 4 minutes at the Blackjack Table

Glad that they at least gave you vicadin. I had all 4 out at same time 23 yrs ago and they gave me tylenol (initially). After the 'caine wore off, I went and found the medic who was also a buddy, and told him there was no way I was going to make it on tylenol! I just escaped from tenino after 10 yrs out there...have to admit I miss it. Enjoy seeing you mention places in your threads that I know well...
