SWMBO Cider

Recommended Posts

OK i have all ingrediants to make: KT's Carmel Apple Cider

RECIPE INCLUDES:
1 Can Archer's Orchard Hard Cider
1 Can Golden Wheat UME
1 Packet Dry Cider Yeast
1 Packet One-Step™ Sanitizing Cleanser

YOU PR0VIDE:
2 Cups Light Brown Sugar
1 Cup Granulated White Sugar
1 Teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice

BUT...

I like the idea of the Nong Cider Recepie (thanks dag).

Question is can I substitute apple cider for some of the water? Or Substitute some cider in place of some of the sugars? This will be my first cider and want it to turn out. Please let me know you cider heads out there...

Preservatives in the cider may make the exchange unhealthy for the yeasties.

I always have some kind on NONG on hand. I have been experimenting with apple juice for a few months. Anyways, when you use apple juice just make sure it's 100% juice - NO additives other than Vitamin C (aka ascorbic acid). Bottle, can or consentrate will all work. I always just buy whatever is on sale/cheapest.

I have made this recipe before and it works with 2 quarts (i used over a gallon) of apple juice. I thought it tasted better than the KT's Cider. Just my opinion.

Came out tasting fine. My hydrometer was broken the last time I made it, so I'm not sure on the ABV, but it's was'nt close to the Nong Cider though. In fact, I need to make another batch - Enjoy!

I'd think you could use the apple juice vice the water. I don't use any water in my ciders.
I make 3 different ciders for SWMBO: Dark Cider, Orange Cider, and Pumpkin Pie Spice Cider.

If I use 1Gal of applejuice and 1Gal water, will the standard CIDER yeast hold up to the ABV Levels?

Are you talking Mr. Beer Cider yeast?

If you go to the MB chat and ask they should tell you the ABV tolerance of the yeast. (If not in the FAQ section).

--- Edit ---
I know I just bottled a Hard Lemonade that I used MB yeast and it was 8.5 ABV
