Ezekiel beer

Recommended Posts

Has anyone discussed the idea of making an Ezekiel bread (http://bible.cc/ezekiel/4-9.htm) inspired beer? This is probably mostly an issue with converting the starches in beans (barley, wheat, spelt and millet would work well enough on their own), and using enough fining agents to not end up with a gunky mess by the end.

Recently made a beer with granola made by my girlfriend, which turned out pretty well, but there was a lot of trub...

He'Brew (Schmaltz brewing company) uses grains like Spelt, Millet, Quinoa, and the like in their beers. But they have not tried lentils that I am aware of.

One thing I do know is that at least some beans have enzymes that actually block alpha amylase starch conversion, so beans might actually really screw up your mash.

I'd guess if you dry roasted them until they were golden brown and deliscious, and then crushed them up, maybe you could get a bit of sugar out of them and deactivate the enzymes that would screw up your mash, but I can't say for sure.

If you try it, let us know how it works.
