New washer with new mr beer kits suck..

Recommended Posts

Ok....being in canada and ordering through amazon.

Got a new mr beer kit with my Second lbk!
Very excited until I looked at the new spigot.

Plus side, really like the tap . really great for using a bottle wand. downside is the PLASTIC washer.

I hope they are switching back to the rubber one because this one is leaking bad.

Would hate to have my pilsner all over my basement floor. :)

in addition noticed the new washer is still rubber....but it does sure doesn't seem to fit the same way. Found my old one from my first lbk and it works fine.

Hey Woody, good to see a fellow Canuck around here!

There have been some serious complaints about the new spiggot, for sure. Some have experienced it breaking if tightened too tight, so be careful with it. Personally, I've not had any problems so far and I have 5 of the things! [knocks on wood]

Of course, we all like the style of the new spiggot, but some better quality would have been nice...

Well thankfully the washer does fit fine on my old lbk with the old spigot.

So I can still use it for my batch prime when my pilsner is ready ( yay!)

Not griping too much with the coopers take over though. the can designs are way better and I do like the spigot design...just wish the washer was a tad better lol.

@Creative: I haven't noticed a difference in the washers. Hmmmm.

Very cool Wings_Fan! I'm in Sarnia, which is about an hour and half southwest of Hamilton. I have a sister-in-law in that area.

Small world indeed!

keep the plastic one in warm/hot water for 10-15 min before you tighten, and you'll get a much better seal.

Let me say first that I'm a Calgary Stampeder fan....
That being said, you can always go to a hardware store (or even Canadian Tire) and pick up some rubber gasket material if you are really concerned about not having a rubber gasket. You can trace the pattern of your old gasket and cut or punch out a new gasket of superior quality. I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

To help prevent leaks with my LBK, I sanded the seam of the 2 halves of the LBK under the spigot washer area. There is a raised area then that can leak.

That really helped.
The second fix is to use two of the rubber gaskets.
One inside and one outside.
Install with the taper to the keg.
Do not need to make the tap very tight - just sung will work fine.

I have no more leaks.

Been to Canada one time - Manitoba way out in the boonies for a big Endurance Race.. it was a real PIA getting the business into Canada then back to the USA.. never went back

Been to Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, and Kitchener a few times. I keep trying to get my wife to get a passport, so we can perhaps go on a long weekend to Toronto. I was very impressed. You've got a nice city there, eh? Beauty.
