Porter, hops a necessity?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on making an all malt porter, here's my simple recipe...

1 can American Porter HME
1 LME - Robust
Vanilla Extract or ground cardamom seeds (added to only some of the bottles, just to experiment)

Should I add hops to this for aroma/flavor? If so, any suggestions?

well that part is on you. it's your beer. unless you trying to "stay in style" then no.

The new Porter is very bitter IMHO does not need more hops. I added a pound of dark lme to it and it turned out nice. I also put 2 TBSP vanilla extract into the lbk after 1 week.

Just made this with a Pale LME, booster, and a couple of vanilla beans. Came out great and perfectly bitter. You could dry hop for aroma if you like hops. But it was the perfect bitter for me.
