Apples instead of blueberries?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about using apples instead of blueberries in the Blue Patriot recipe. The recipe came with 2 15 ounce cans. As long as I use the same amount of apples by weight before purée I should be ok,yes?
Thinking about using Honeycrisp or Macintosh apples. Any feedback appreciated.

I don't want to discourage you, because it's your beer, and you may find you like this alteration to the recipe.

But I made an "Apple Crisp Ale" last year. It was an all-grain recipe from a book my daughter gave me, and I followed it exactly.

I didn't care for it. I used Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples. I found it had a sour, vinegar taste, very faint, but always there. Your experience may be different, but I was disappointed in this recipe, and won't be making it again.

Welcome to the forum Bob! So, I can't speak from experience on apples because I have never used them, and like Dave, I don't want to discourage you. I say try it because it is your beer, and you never know if you are going to like it. I never heard of using apples in beer, and there might be a reason, like Dave indicated.

But, you did find the forum, and we are here to help you make better beer!
