First batch worries

Recommended Posts

Hello

I recently received a Mr Beer kit as a gift. I just started my first batch 4 days ago. I read and reread the instructions. I watched the videos. I sterilized everything. The temperature has been perfect.

So my problem is this; I am seeing no evidence of fermentation taking place. No foam at all. Also, there seems to be a layer of something in the bottom of the keg. I stirred it completely as the instructions stated.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

The layer at the bottom is called trub. It's a sign that fermentation is taking place. You're fine.

You may or may not have had foam at the top. Not really a big deal. As long as you have trub at the bottom of the keg, your in business.

Look for the "Simple Guide Line". That will give you a wealth of information.

Thanks for the replies.

Got a little worried when I didn't see any foam like in the video.

I'll let you know how it turns out!

every batch ferments differently.  I have had batches reach final gravity in as little as 24 hours.  Never saw a sign of fementation.  Give you beer 3 weeks in the LBK then a minimum of 4 weeks in the bottle.  Get a hydrometer
