5 gallon batch Qst

Recommended Posts

Looking into 5 gallon batches and there are 6 gallon or 6.5 gallon primary buckets available.  Is the extra half gallon that important?  I understand the reason for head space, just not sure if it makes a difference either way.

I have always used 6.5 gallon carboy for 5 gallon batches.Probably isn't all that important but I like the extra headspace so I don't have to use a blowoff tube as much.Whenever I used a 6 gallon I would sometimes have to use a blowoff tube due to fermentation coming out of the airlock.. Just my 2 cents
