Generic Oxygen cleaner

Recommended Posts

So, I've got some bottles that need a good cleaning and other bottles that need labels removed. My wife handed me some generic "oxygen cleaner" that she didn't use anymore for the laundry. The active ingredients are sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate. I was thinking of making some in my 5 gallon bottling bucket and soaking the bottles overnight. Should I have any concerns?

Shouldn't be any concerns as long as you rinse them well after.  I mix 30% sodium metasilicate (TSP/90 from Ace Hardware) and 70% Oxyclean into a homemade PBW, which works awesome, but Oxiclean by itself does a pretty darn good job as well.

just be sure to wash them and rinse them after soaking. oxy leaves a residue that is slimy.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will give this stuff a go. I'm just planning to use it to soak some "crud" from the inside of some bottles that I received and help remove some labels. A good thorough washing and sanitizing should clear things up after that.
