long answer:  aeration provides needed oxygen at the start of everything so the yeast can make babies and grow in numbers big enough to do the job.

.

hydration gets the yeast woke up and allows them to purge their stomachs I think so they can be ready to eat like pigs.  during hydration with water, the low gravity of water puts less stress on their fragile cell walls as they take it in... if you dump them into wort right away it can ...note CAN cause stress on them. wort has a higher gravity than water.  it might cause (osmotic) shock to their cell membranes when they suddenly start pumping in wort. it CAN cause some..maybe even half or more of the cells to croak.

.

here is the good news. yeast don't care. you are pitching enough cells where even if you kill off half, there's enough where they can reproduce, eat their dead brothers then tuck in on the wort. . forget to aerate? no problem. it just makes the yeast take longer to make babies... which means longer lag time (time when nothing seems to be happening).

.

yeast are very tough little critters. as rick said... it will be fine.
