I am new to brewing but noticed my recent brew of Aztec has a bit of a stronger alcohol bite to it?  Is this normal or anything I could have done differently?

All the base refills are 3.1%.

Yeah, if you don't get all the malt out of the can or use too much water. lol. I always average around 3.5%.

Then you're obviously not getting enough out of the can. ;)

Never mind those guys, they love bantering amongst themselves. What you're probably tasting is fusel alcohol which is a byproduct of fermenting at too high of a temperature. Fusel alcohol will give you an "alcohol bite" when you drink your beer. You should keep your fermenting beer (not air temp but beer temp) between 62 to 66 degrees Fahrenheit.
