Single Hop IPA: Galaxy

Recommended Posts

Just saw this online & I think I'm going to brew it Saturday.

Grain Bill
8 lbs Light DME
2 lbs. Munich Malt
1 lb. Crystal 20L Malt

Hops
0.5 oz. Galaxy hops (15.0% AA), added in the brew kettle while lautering and sparging, as a first wort hop addition
1 oz. Galaxy hops, added with 20 minutes left in the 60 minute boil
1 oz. Galaxy hops, added with 10 minutes left in the 60 minute boil
2 oz. Galaxy hops, added at the end of the boil while whirlpooling.
2 oz. Galaxy hops, added as a dry hop after primary fermentation is complete.

This will be a 5.5 gallon batch.

Also, I think what I'm going to do is add 2lbs (or less) of the DME for 60mins for the early addition hops, and add all of rest at the end.  I want this IPA to turn out as light in color as my last IPA.  Anything darker would be a major fail to me.

Are you able to mash all grain yet? My first AG SMASH Ale was nice and light in color and I was able to follow an increasing hop schedule. You can mash, lauter and sparge with a 5 or 10 gallon igloo cooler and a large BIAB bag very easy.

7lb American 2 row

0.5lb Caramel 20

0.5lb Carapils

Mash 60 min at 150

FWH the first runnings

Lauter and sparge to reach desired volume

Follow hop schedule as above

1tsp Irish moss at 15

Ferment with favorite yeast as normal.

Not yet, Sabre.  That won't happen until spring b/c some of the process will be taking place outside.

You can do what I do and scale the batch down to 4.5 gallon boil, 3.5 bottle. Once I met up with my uncle I have a propane burner, for free. Hee comes 5 gallon batches.
