New guy needs info

Recommended Posts

Now I know there are loads of useful info in these forums and I have read alot of useful info but I got tired of trying to find a answer so I will just ask here to get it answered.

This past Monday I started a  Aztec Mexican Cerveza it was part of my kit did everything that we are suposed to do sanitize everything and I use spring water pitched my yeast that came with the can the next day had plenty of movement going on and then Thursday i go to check on it and there isnt anything going on nothing moving everything settled to the bottom no bubbles on top I have left it alone as I have read in this forum to let it go for 3 weeks but im afraid that if I let it go for that long with nothing happening that it will spoil. Should I put some yeast energizer in it to make the yeast active again? or should I mix it up as its pretty clear looking. also the temp has ranged from 60 to 65F

let it go the three weeks ,,,then bottle it up you should be just fine....most of the action happens in the first three days,,it may seem like nothing is happening but the yeast is cleaning up your beer now.... Good luck!! ? ??

I just lift the cooler lid, take a whiff, sneak a quick peek, then tuck a dollar bill in as I close the lid.

has anyone ever used Yeast nutrient or Yeast Energizer in there brew? not the simple brew refills but the brews like Rapturous Raspberry which I currently have in my 2cd keg or my future brews El Gordito Mexican Lager,Calavera Spiced Chile Stout. I am new to beer brewing but a novice at wine making and I use both Yeast foods with 90% of my wines

Dry yeast has yeast nutrient in it already. Youd only use energizer if fermenting stopped completely

I too love lifting the lid and taking a huge whiff. I need an air freshener that smells just so for my work truck. Mmmmmm beer!

Correct Creeps, dry yeast already is coated with nutrient so no need to add anything.  I add yeast nutrient to each batch that I brew.  Can't say it has helped but then again, I can't say it hasn't.  Very important in my meads and maple wine.

Congratulations, you made Beer!!  Now it just needs to finish and clear.  You said in a later post that you make wine, and really beer is somewhat similar in the fact that after fermentation it has to clean up the off flavors that the yeast put out but it also has to clear.  In the case of wine you transfer to a secondary to help with this process something that isn't necessary for beer most of the time.

Also, don't listen to RickBeer with regards to perving your beer (he is antibeerporn).  We are all adults, look if you want to just don't take off the top.
