I have the 2 gallon northwest pale ale kit. So I did everything proper in terms of sterilizing all my equipment etc. but at the very end of the process as I was adding cool water to the wort I ran my fingers through the water I was adding it into the fermenter on accident. Did I blow this batch with whatever bacteria could have been on my hand?

OH MY GOD!

Question:  When was the last time you washed your hands?    :o

It will be fine, assuming your hands were clean.  If you had recently serviced your car engine, or gone to the bathroom and not washed, then you might need to worry.

There's worse things that you could've done.  Heck, I've done worse things and my beer still turned out great.  Welcome aboard!

Seconded.  If you sanitized everything properly then your hands were most likely pretty clean too.  So unless you did other things like digging your underwear out of your crack, handling raw poultry, or changing a dirty diaper and didn't wash your hands before pouring the water, you should be fine.  But if you did any of those things and didn't wash your hands, then you've got bigger problems than a bad batch of beer.  ;)

Don't worry about the car engine, you will save on dark malts.

There's a beer out there called Old Engine Oil. It's a really good beer. Maybe that's their secret.

When in doubt wear a set of surge gloves  and use kitchen utensils sparingly.

Most of us buy utensils for brew only and sterilize before use.

Pots, measuring cups, Ladle and others never see Christmas cookie  dough ever.

Cheers, M

At the worst you probably just created a slightly unique flavored beer. :D

Maybe you can call it Butt Crack ale!
