Vanilla cream ale

Recommended Posts

I'm got a vanilla cream lager going now almost done. Doesn't have enough vanilla flavor for me. Does anyone have a great recipe?

You can always add a small amount of vanilla extract to each bottle at bottling for more flavor. Just a drop or 2 (or to taste, depending on bottle size) in each bottle should do.

Welcome to the community, by the way! :D

Thank you.  To get the creamy part of the brew I added 4oz lactose sugar to the end of the boil. What other methods can I get a "creamy" brew?

Oats and 2-Row.  Not sure how that'll be in a cream ale b/c I've never made one.  In my experience, lactose added minimum creaminess, but it did add sweetness.

No.  Check out Josh's site for some help.  Sorry Hummer.  I didn't realize that you were so new at this.  Look at the site then post if you have any questions. :)

Couldn't you also use flaked corn instead of oats to get a creamy brew; Or do oats work better?

Yes. Flaked corn is what I would use as it is more to style for a cream ale.

Corn doesn't belong in beer.

I would have agreed with you until I tried this:  https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35718/173873/    Local micro just south of me that makes great but odd beers.

Josh, I just bottled a cream ale.  I'll have to try the corn next time I do a batch.

Vanilla sounds great, too.  I did half of the batch plain cream ale, 1/4 cherry, and 1/4 blueberry.

if I'm not mistaken there's a recipe for a cream ale on the Mr beer website that uses flaked corn...

I never had much interest in brewing a cream ale, but I want to try to use the flaked corn "just because", so I may give it a shot.
