Peanut Butter Fingers Stout

Recommended Posts

I just saw this recipe and would like to try it, but find the ABV disappointingly low, below 6%. I like my stouts 7-8% or higher.

What would be a good way to increase the ABV without altering the taste (too much).

adds about 3/4%.  Two of them would be about 1.5% increase, so roughly 7.5% ABV. But the kit comes with one, so I wouldn't go with three.  Personally, two most.  Something else is

commonly added to stouts, which adds 1% each. But that would add more stout flavor and could be a loss of the peanut butter flavor.

I'm going to invite @RickBeer to this one.  Maybe

@rickbeer, what do you think as far as adding more ABV, not affecting the flavor much, and the yeast would still be happy?  Would switching the yeast to Nottingham Yeast be better?

If you use the MB booster, you might also add some malto-dextrin to help maintain body and "mouth-feel". I'm not a fan of the booster, and have not used it since my first few brews. I would rather add more malt (within reason), as it adds alcohol, flavor and body. YMMV

There are already two packets of LME and 1 packet of booster in this recipe.

I might consider using two cans of the St. Patrick's Irish Stout, no LME, and no booster.
